Native Old Timers lunch in Skaneateles

Residents celebrate Fall in hometown

The Native Old Timers sold out their annual fall lunch at the Hilltop Restaurant Thursday Oct. 25. Ken Wooster conducted an entertainment trivia program. This photo of the guns in Shotwell Park was part of the quiz. There were 31 questions, which created much interest and some debate.

The naval guns were removed at the start of WWII for scrap for the war effort. This destroyed the fun for some natives who enjoyed telling tourists that the guns were to stop a naval invasion coming down the lake from Borodino.

The guns were historic as they were five inch guns off the cruiser Olympia. That was the flag ship of Admiral Dewey at the Battle of Manilla in the Spanish Amerian War.

There were many other interesting questions and a good time was enjoyed by all with many old acquaintances renewed. The group is very informal and really is not limited to natives of Skaneateles, just some folks with an interest in Skaneateles who have been around "a few years."

If you are interested in the next lunch, which will probably be in spring, call Peg Brown and she will let you know as she sends out a mailing when she thinks about it. Anyway it is a lot of fun and nothing serious is decided, so give her a call. She's in the little book.
