MCS sets open meetings under theme of 'communication'

Marcellus Central School District Superintendent of Schools Craig Tice is acting upon the 2006/2007 school year district theme of "communication" with the scheduling of a series of building level town meetings in January 2007.

The town meeting format is designed to encourage community feedback and input and as Superintendent Tice said, "I want these meetings to be listening sessions to gather feedback from our community."

The focus of the town meeting sessions will be to update the community on the current building project and to gather community ideas on future projects. The Marcellus Central School District is currently eligible for EXCEL aide. EXCEL aide is available for projects submitted to New York State by April 1, 2007. EXCEL aide can be used by school districts for items such as educational technology, health and safety projects, accessibility, physical capacity expansions, and energy efficiency.

The Marcellus Central School District, using the EXCEL aide formula, could complete a project with limited impact on the local taxpayer. EXCEL aide projects must be voter approved prior to submission to the state. The Marcellus Central School, in planning for the future, has a choice of meeting district needs through large comprehensive projects that address issues over an extended period of time or through frequent multi-dimensional projects of a smaller nature.

Superintendent Tice is hoping that the town meeting format will provide the opportunity for our educational community to share their ideas relative to the future direction of school district planning.

Communication is the key.
