Marcellus students remember troops

By Dave Taddeo

On Thursday Nov. 16, the sixth grade students from Driver Middle School came together to package "goody bags" for the troops that are deployed overseas. The project was initiated as a way to involve students in their community.

Since several members of the Marcellus community are currently stationed away from home, the sixth grade was asked if they would like to create and pack "goody bags" for those troops who will not be home for the holidays.

The sixth grade families were very generous in contributing such items as granola bars, cheese and crackers, cereal, candy, gum and other sweet treats. The students packaged approximately 400 bags that will be sent out in time for the holiday season. Mrs. Marilyn Schneider will coordinate the final packing and shipping phase of the project.

In the spirit of collaboration, two fifth grade classes from Wellwood Middle School in Fayetteville joined in the project and have sent approximately 240 "goody bags" to Mrs. Schneider. Thank you to Miss Cosgrove and Mrs. Ganley and to their classes for helping to make this community project reach all who wanted to participate and support our men and women in the military.

We know that our troops will be appreciative of the hard work that all of the students did on this project. Thank you to our families for their continued support.
