Mad Agnes is not one person, but three, and they're mad in only the most inventive way. This quirky, genre-bending trio from Connecticut combines distinctive harmonies, lush instrumentation, and madcap humor in a powerful live performance. They're celebrating the release of their new CD, Revenants.
Mad Agnes will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Westcott Community Center, 826 Euclid Ave., Syracuse.
Twin female lead vocals are provided by Margo Hennebach and Adrienne Jones, each of them songwriters and seasoned solo performers in her own right.
Hennebach is a classically trained musician who has been described as "captivating" by Sing Out magazine. She has been a finalist in songwriting competitions, including Kerrville and Napa Valley, and holds music degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the Guildhall School of Music in London.
Jones is a self-taught fingerstyle and rhythm guitarist and bassist, as well as a finalist in four national songwriting competitions.
Mad Agnes also features Hartford Conservatory graduate Mark Saunders on vocals and on acoustic, electric, National steel, and bass guitars. His virtuoso guitar work recalls the inventiveness of Richard Thompson, while providing understated ballast with his voice and lead guitar, his delicate arpeggio picking . . . and fiery fills and runs," says Acoustic Guitar magazine.
Admission to the Saturday evening show is $12 ($10 for WCC members). For reservations call the Westcott Community Center at 478-8634.
