Fayettleville's Rose Cottage offers local ornaments

Matilda Joslyn Gage Home ornament newest in collection

The Rose Cottage, located in Fayetteville, is offering Christmas ornaments which depict local scenes in Fayetteville and Manlius. This is the eighth year these items have been exclusively sold at The Rose Cottage.

Included in this festive collection, and still available, are: Beard Park, The Manlius Amphitheatre, the Fayetteville Municipal Building, Wellwood School, the Erie Canal, the former Fayetteville Library, and the Grover Cleveland House.

These high quality ornaments are made of a sturdy resin, approximately 3 1/2 inches, and hand-painted individually.

The ornaments have had an avid following, with people collecting the new one each year, giving them as gifts, and sending them to family and friends who have moved away from the area and want to stay connected.

The ornaments are currently in stock and retail for $25 each, with the option of a matching stand for $5. This year, The Rose Cottage is proud to release the Matilda Joslyn Gage Home ornament. Five dollars from the sale of each of these ornaments will be donated to the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation.

The Gage Foundation is dedicated to telling the story of Matilda Joslyn Gage, a progressive visionary of women's rights and human liberation. Gage lived in the house at 210 E. Genesee St. in Fayetteville for many years, and it was the site of much of her work in the woman's suffrage movement of the 19th century. The Gage Foundation is currently conducting restorations to recreate the house as it was when Gage called it home.

The Rose Cottage is located at 101 Spring Street in Fayetteville. The proprietress, Jill Dickey, has owned the shop for 10 years. Upon visiting The Rose Cottage, one will find an array of items such as imported French soaps and beautiful linens including embroidered guest towels and Egyptian cotton towels for the bath. Of greatest specialty is the linen collection by Sferra Bros., which includes luxurious bed covers, sheets of the finest fabrics and warm cozy blankets, all of which can be put together for a bedroom ensemble. The Rose Cottage also offers baby gifts, toys and clothing made in the USA by local company, Cubby's Caps.
