Ironically, while pitching in a softball game, Troy's father Vince was hit in the face with a line drive and needed re-constructive surgery. He has six metal plates in his head.
Luckily, and with a huge scar on his head, Troy Buono will be going into seventh grade. He will have to attend concussion clinics on a regular basis. He will forever be living with the possibilities of headaches, seizures and what they call the Rocky syndrome, a punch-drunkeness from getting hit in the head too hard. And he never did get to finish that all important slice of pizza.
About a year and a half ago, while riding his bike, Troy Buono was hit by a car. He flipped over the hood and landed on the other side. But he had his helmet on and he was all right.
In a parting statement he said, Kids should always wear helmets so that this doesn't happen to them.
