Onondaga Historical Association will be opening two new temporary exhibits on November 15 running through June 15, 2014. Fashion after Five curated by SU’s Jeffrey Mayer, associate professor of fashion design and history and curator of the Sue Ann Genet Costume Collection, will explore the history of the cocktail dress. Several spectacular garments from the collections of both OHA and SU will be on display. Additionally, SU Department of Fashion Design students will present their own designs inspired by the selected exhibit vintage dresses.
Culture of the Cocktail Hour, will show some of those people, places and events, including Syracuse’s most famous cocktail lounges of days gone by. Several artifacts, pictures and documents will be on display from the Prohibition Era. The Museum located at 321 Montgomery Street, Syracuse, is open to the public Wednesdays – Fridays 10 am – 4 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays 11 am – 4 pm.
On November 13, a reception will be held to open the exhibits from 5pm to 9pm. Students will be modeling their designs. Food and drink will be available in OHA’s Speakeasy. $10 OHA members; $15 Non-members. Please call Karen at 428-1864 X 312 to make your reservation.
